? Despite assurances from Taco Bell?s president Thursday, many LIers are weary about eating at the chain amid an E. coli mystery.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says lettuce from California?s Salinas Valley may be the source of the bacteria. Taco Bell?s president says the company has now changed its produce supplier. Green onions were originally thought to be the source of the outbreak. Taco Bell says it has been forced to close up to 90 stores in the northeast and layoff employees. Experts say the shift has many fast-food lovers leery of eating anywhere but home.
Nassau health officials have confirmed one E. coli case and are investigating more than 80 suspected cases. In Suffolk, officials confirmed 11 cases and are probing more than 100 suspected cases.
