Two restaurants on Long Island donated 100% of their takeout orders Friday to earthquake relief efforts in Turkey.
Eroll Alkan, owner of Krinti Mediterranean in Woodbury and Chicken Kebab in Roslyn, says around $5,000 was collected between both restaurants.
"I think it was a great outcome in that timeframe that we had," Alkan said.
The restaurant owner has family who have been affected by the collapse of their surroundings. He says communication is difficult and he hopes the money will help his loved ones that are there.
A nearby business owner also came by to support Alkan and his donations.
The money is going through an organization run by a Turkish musician who Alkan says he trusts to get the funds to the right place.
