Long Islanders spent Thursday bracing for the first major snow of 2014.

News 12 Long Island's Danielle Campbell was in Northport at Ace Hardware. The owner of Ace Hardware says the store sold out of shovels, but had a little bit of Ice Melt left for customers.

Officials are predicting about 5 to 10 inches of snow in western Long Island, with 6 to 12 inches east of Route 111.

Drivers are being urged to use caution through Friday.
