Some Long Island residents came together over the handling of a whale stranded in Moriches Bay.
A vigil was held Sunday for the whale that many had nicknamed Hope.
As News 12 previously reported, the whale was euthanized Wednesday after getting stuck on a sandbar.
Many who attended the vigil say they want to make sure the incident does not happen again in the future.
"We truly believe that there should be a whale rescue task force created. Bring in the specialists, figure out what is the action plan that can occur quickly," says Adrienne Esposito, of Citizens Campaign for the Environment.
There is also a petition to change the way stranded whale cases are handled.
