A Long Island resident is helping those in need in Texas as Hurricane Harvey plummets the state.
Elizabeth Barker, of Smithtown, will be part of the team the American Red Cross will send to help those affected by the storm.
Barker is a disaster program manager and has responded to many storms, including Superstorm Sandy.
"I lived through Sandy here on Long Island and I worked with the Red Cross at the time. We were fortunate to receive help from all 50 states and Canada and Mexico,” she says. “I really want to be able to volunteer my time now help people who were able to help me when I needed it.”
The Red Cross has more than 50 shelters set up for storm victims
