A mother from Wyandanch is accused of leaving her baby in the car while she shopped at Wal-Mart.
Police say 24-year-old Shatera Williams left the 1-year-old boy in her Toyota Camry with the windows cracked in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart in Islandia. Her car was left parked in a fire zone.
News 12 is told that the boy was alone for at least 15 minutes.
Williams is charged with endangering the welfare of a child. She was ordered held on $500 bail at her arraignment Sunday.
The baby was released to the care of family members.
In court, Williams' mother declined to speak with reporters about the case.
