Thousands of runners are preparing to participate in the Long Island Marathon on Sunday.
The 26.2-mile race kicks off at 8 a.m. on Sunday on Charles Lindbergh Boulevard in Uniondale.
Runners will cross the finish line in Eisenhower Park in East Meadow.
A variety of shorter races and finish line festivities are being offered all weekend long.
Drivers can expect road closures in and around the race route, especially on Sunday, as runners head down main roads and the Wantagh Parkway. Officials say security will be on high alert again this year following last year's Boston Marathon bombings.
Uniformed and plainclothes officers, K-9 units, police helicopters and SWAT officers will be on hand. Bags will not be allowed at the start and finish lines.
