Election officials are responding to multiple reports from voters across Long Island who encountered problems at some polling places Tuesday.
Machine malfunctions occurred at multiple Long Island polling places Tuesday, according to News 12 viewers, leading to lengthy waits to vote.
The scene at Ronkonkoma Middle School was one of confusion, where one voting machine got jammed up. Kristen George says she waited four hours to vote due to a broken ballot scanner.
"They put a sign that it's not working. They sealed it, they said they couldn't open it and that we had to just leave. And I said, 'What about our votes?'" says George.
George said some people left their ballots with poll workers, who then placed them in a briefcase.
"I said I'm not leaving. I came to vote ... I waited for just about 4 hours before the machines, we could actually vote. They ended up using the absentee ballot machine," she says.
Broken machines were reported at East Broadway Elementary School in Seaford and Babylon Town Hall.
Suffolk and Nassau Board of Election commissioners issued a joint statement, saying, "Ballot jams, unfortunately, are a fact of life with our current technology.  The jam is either cleared by a trained person at the site or a team of board employees is dispatched."
George was particularly annoyed because she says no one came to fix their broken machine.
Mike Conway said he was even turned away from voting at Bethpage-JFK Middle School because someone else had already voted in his name. He had to go to an election office in Mineola and file an affidavit in his name in order to vote.
"I do think it should be investigated," says Conway. "People are concerned about voter fraud and those things come up."
