A North Babylon woman is breathing a sigh of relief after going on a wild hunt for her wedding ring.
Colleen Dychman says she accidentally tossed her diamond ring in the trash Sunday night.
She says she usually puts the rings in a cup while cooking but decided instead that they needed to be cleaned.
Dychman says she thinks she scooped the rings up with other items and threw them in the trash.
After realizing what she'd done Monday morning, she and her husband followed a garbage truck to the dump.
"I had this ring since 1997 and there was no way with the mortgage and the taxes that I was going to replace these rings," she says.
At the dump, more than 10 workers helped the couple sift through the trash for more than three hours until they finally found the ring.
The Dychmans say they are thankful for everyone's help in finding their rings. They even bought the workers pizza to show their appreciation.
