There is a debate brewing over a racial profiling plan backed by a Long Island congressman. While screening airport passengers, Transportation Security Administration workers cannot base questions on race or religion. However, Congressman Peter King (R-Seaford) says it is time to put away political correctness and use common sense. King, who also chairs the House Homeland Security Committee, says screeners should be allowed to question travelers of Middle Eastern and South Asian descent. He says it is not racial profiling since those locations are where terrorists are based.Dr. Faroque Khan, of the Long Island Islamic Center, says investigative techniques like King?s will not work. Khan says it will actually alienate a community that is helping in the war on terror.
