Many Long Island residents made preparations for another round of wintry weather expected to begin before the evening rush hour Tuesday.

The snow is expected to gain momentum Tuesday afternoon and continue through the night, ending by 6 a.m. Wednesday. Total snow amounts are expected to reach 6 to 10 inches for most of Long Island, with possible higher amounts on the East End.

Shoppers at Ace Hardware in Bethpage bought batteries, shovels and de-icers to combat the snow.

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto says crews are ready with "plenty of salt and plenty of sand" to keep roadways free of ice.

A winter storm earlier this month shut down the Long Island Expressway for a period of time while crews worked to keep the roadway clear.
