Up to 1,000 Suffolk families are expected to receive help with their heating bills if they don't qualify for federal assistance.
Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy signed off Wednesday on the Middle Income Home Energy Assistance Program, which will provide financial assistance to families based on their income.
A family of four earning $61,000 or less will be eligible for the MI-HEAP assistance. For couples, the limit on earning is $41,000.
There is no such program in Nassau County yet.
