Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy is part of a nationwide coalition demanding payback for illegal immigration costs.
Levy says the coalition's goals include sending a message to the federal government about immigration policy reform, securing the nation?s borders and reimbursing local communities for taxpayer money spent on illegal immigration. Levy says resources used to monitor illegal immigrants, such as housing and code enforcement and police, is money that could be better used elsewhere.
Levy says 60 people from 26 different states met at the coalition's first meeting in Washington, D.C. Monday.
