A letter written by Lee Harvey Oswald, the man who shot President John F. Kennedy in 1963, went up for auction in Lynbrook tonight.
In the letter, written months before Oswald shot Kennedy in Dallas, Oswald expresses his interest in joining Communist Party USA. Gus Hall, the party's chairman, never responded, believing Oswald was a federal agent. Nearly 50 years later, his family decided to sell the letter and Phil Weiss is the auctioneer.
The final price paid for the letter was $10,735.
