There are dozens of worrisome cracks on the newly renovated Udall Road Overpass in West Islip, according to Suffolk County Legislator Thomas Barraga, who is calling for a fast fix "before someone gets killed."
The overpass accommodates pedestrian and vehicle traffic over the Southern State Parkway in West Islip. Barraga says more than 70 cracks are visible on the facade and sidewalk of the overpass after the renovation.
Barraga says he isn't sure whether the cracks are a result of bad cement, the weight of the traffic, a lack of expansion joints or poor workmanship on the part of the contractor.
The Department of Transportation says the project is currently under review.
