New York lawmakers were discussing Tuesday a measure to legalize the adult use of recreational marijuana in the state.
It was five months ago, at the beginning of the legislative session, when Gov. Andrew Cuomo first proposed legal pot sales in New York.
Lawmakers were still talking and debating the measure behind closed doors Tuesday.
Assemblyman Chuck Lavine, a Democrat from Glen Cove, says he supports legalization but also wants awareness programs in schools as a condition of its passage.
Opponents of the bill, like Democratic state Sen. John Brooks and Republican Assemblyman Michael Montesano, cite health concerns and that it's too complicated of an issue to resolve just before the current legislative session ends on Wednesday.
There was no word by Tuesday evening on whether a vote would happen.
