Legal guardian accused of assaulting 2 girls in New Cassel; family disputes allegations
A New Cassel woman accused of biting and whipping two young girls in her care was freed Friday on $10,000 bond.
Police say Child Protective Services went to Nicaissee Demonsieru’s home on Tuesday afternoon to investigate possible child abuse involving two girls for whom she is the legal guardian.
Investigators say the girls had bite marks and other marks that looked like they were struck by a cord. Police say the girls, ages 8 and 11, were taken to a hospital for evaluation and treatment.
According to police, 34-year-old Demonsieru swallowed several pills when she was told she was under arrest for alleged child abuse. Investigators say she then became violent, pulled away from officers and injured an officer’s hand and shoulder during the struggle.
Family members claim the two girls were hurt while rough-housing with another young family member. They say Demonsieru has no criminal history and that there was no abuse.
“The kids were being coerced by the police to make such claims,” alleges Phanomy Pioneer, who says his brother has a child with Demonsieru.
The Demonsieru family disagrees with the police department’s account of what happened. They say they have security cameras inside and outside the house to prove it.
Her brother, Darren Saint Pierre, wouldn’t turn a video over to News 12 and said “everything will be revealed in court.”
Demonsieru is due back in court next week.
