News 12 Long Island has learned there will be layoffs in the Long Beach Fire Department.
About five firefighters will be laid off by Jan. 1.
Officials say the layoffs are happening because a federal grant given to the department after Superstorm Sandy has run out.
The funding allowed five firefighters laid off in 2012 to be rehired.
The cuts will bring the unit down to 25 members.
