The man accused of killing his wife in their Huntington bagel shop was under the influence of pills and alcohol, his lawyer told jurors Monday.
Prosecutors say Robert Anderson, 66, killed his estranged wife inside Super Bagel for revenge. They say Anderson and his wife Ann were in a bitter divorce battle. They say he entered the store on May 25, 2007 to discuss the couple?s assets with his wife. He became enraged and shot her five times, according to officials.
Robert Anderson?s lawyer says it was in self defense and that he only shot his wife after she drew a weapon. He also told the court Anderson took a mix of sleeping pills, anti-depressants and alcohol before he went into the bagel shop and was delirious.
Anderson could face 25 years to life if convicted of the second-degree murder charges. He is set to reveal more details about the incident in court Tuesday.
