Known gang members are being released from jails across Long Island under the new state bail reform law, according to law enforcement officials.

Suffolk County Sheriff Errol Toulon tells News 12 that 41 of the 301 people released since November are known gang members.

In Nassau, the president of the corrections officers union says known gang members have been released from jail under the law. According to court records, 20 people in Nassau identified as gang members are now back on the street.

As News 12 has reported, about 600 inmates have been released from jail in both Nassau and Suffolk in the two months leading up to Jan. 1.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced earlier this week that he's open to possible tweaks in the law. However, he didn't discuss the matter in his State of the State address.
