A Laurelton man was arrested early Sunday morning for assaulting an Uber driver parked in front of Long Island Jewish Valley Stream Hospital.

According to detectives, a 51-year-old Uber driver was waiting for his customer at 900 Franklin Ave. just after 2 a.m. when 37-year-old Jonathan Sharrock approached his vehicle asking to borrow his cell phone.

Officials said that Sharrock allegedly became aggressive after making a call and demanding a ride from the driver. When he refused, Sharrock began punching the driver in the face through the window, causing injuries to his forehead, lip and chin.

Sharrock also caused damage to the victim’s vehicle during the assault and was restrained by hospital security until police arrived.

While in custody, Sharrock reportedly bit and scratched police officers who were securing him to a stretcher before he was transported to an area hospital for a medical evaluation.

After Sharrock was released, he made threats to hospital staff and spit at police officers.

Sharrock is charged with two counts of assault in the second degree, assault in the third degree, criminal mischief in the third degree, making a terroristic threat and harassment in the second degree.

He will be arraigned Sunday evening at First District Court in Hempstead.
