A Long Island native is set to hit the ice for his hometown team.
Defenseman Marshall Warren, of Laurel Hollow, is expected to be in the lineup for the Islanders on Saturday when they visit the Flyers in Philadelphia. On Friday, he practiced with the team for the first time.
"I was a little kid at Ice Works, skating in that Little Islanders program, who would have thought you'd ever be in this position?" Warren said. "It's really surreal. I don't really have any words for it. It took a village for me to get here, and I put a lot of work in, a lot of sacrifice."
Warren, 24, was drafted 166th overall by the Minnesota Wild in 2019. In 2024, he signed a two-year contract with the Islanders and this season he played with the team's minor league club in Bridgeport, where he had a team-high five points in four games.
Warren is set to become the fourth Long Islander to play for the Islanders in their history, which dates back to 1972.
