Police are probing a Central Islip hit-and-run that left a Korean War veteran and family man dead Saturday.
According to police, 67-year-old Watson Morris was struck around 9 p.m. in front of a Getty gas station on Motor Parkway near Joshua's Path. Witnesses reported seeing the husband and father of two lying in the road. Police said witnesses also saw the driver of a van stop and then flee on Yalta Drive.
"They saw an extended 16-passenger van," said Sgt. Thomas Groneman. "The type that is used to bring passengers back and forth to the airport."
Morris' relatives said the victim went to pick up food and may have become disoriented due to his failing vision.
"I just want to say to the person who hit my father, let me tell you we might not ever catch you but God will," said the victim's daughter Danielle Morris. "God will definitely catch you so you might as well just turn yourself in."Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Suffolk Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
