Kings Park Central School District officials invited parents to discuss how to pay for a $41 million plan to repair six buildings.
District officials want to take out a loan -- a proposal that doesn't sit well with many parents.
Both sides met Tuesday night for a public discussion on the district's pending bond referendum that would increase taxes by about $12 per household per month if passed.
Superintendent Timothy Eagen says that none of the proposed upgrades are "frivolous or outlandish."
District officials say the buildings that need repairs are rife with rusted lockers and broken doors.
Eagen says nearby school districts have passed referendums totaling double or triple Kings Park's $41 million proposal.
Eagen says he hopes to have the community vote on the bond referendum in December so that construction crews can begin making repairs next summer.
