A woman got to thank the stranger who gave her a lifesaving gift.

The two women met for the first time at North Shore University Hospital on Wednesday.

Heather Lucas donated a kidney to Yvette Caton. Heather had an otherwise healthy kidney removed because of a painful, and rare condition, involving a compressed vein. It saved Yvette's life after she spent years on dialysis.

Doctors say without the transplant, Yvette's condition would have been fatal.
