Jury selection is set to begin Tuesday in the trial of a former Suffolk legislator accused of taking bribes.
Prosecutors say Wayne Prospect accepted cash from an undercover agent posing as a contractor in exchange for documents related to pending county projects. Prosecutors also allege that Prospect submitted false vouchers to the Long Island Regional Planning Board to receive money for work he never performed.
Experts say the trial could become an embarrassment for several politicians who will be forced to testify. Hundreds of hours of recorded conversations are expected to be read in open court, leading experts to say many politicians wished Prospect had pleaded guilty instead of going to trial.
