An attempt for a new trial in the fatal wrong-way Meadowbrook Parkway crash case was denied Tuesday by a Nassau judge.
The defense attorney for Martin Heidgen, the man convicted of killing two people while driving drunk the wrong way on the Meadowbrook Parkway, tried to get the verdict tossed due to jury tampering. The attorney claimed that one of the jurors in the case was coerced into changing vote from manslaughter to murder during deliberations. However, the judge ruled there was not enough evidence to prove that theory.
Katie Flynn, 7, who was with her family on the way back from a wedding, and limo driver Stanley Rabinowitz were killed in the crash back in 2005. Flynn's father called Heidgen a cockroach following Tuesday's hearing and said he is squirming to get away.Heidgen's sentencing will now take place on February 28. He faces 25 years to life behind bars.
