Parts of Jones Beach are still flooded days after a damaging storm tore through Long Island.

State Parks Regional Director George Gorman says there was flooding from both the Atlantic Ocean and the bay.

A protective wall of sand on the beach was damaged by the storm. Crews were unable to repair it Thursday because heavy equipment might have gotten stuck in the wet sand.

Public officials are continuing to ask Gov. Kathy Hochul to declare a state of emergency for Long Island. Former Rep. Tom Suozzi echoed that call today. The Democrat is currently running to reclaim his seat in the house.

A spokesperson for the governor’s office told News 12 repair work could begin without a state of emergency.
