An East Meadow man was sentenced today in a crash that killed an NYPD officer.
Jonathan Lopez had been convicted of reckless endangerment and assault. He was sentenced to 10 months for causing the crash that killed off-duty NYPD Officer Kevin Jessup.
Officials say the 22-year-old and Jessup were driving 100 mph on the Southern State Parkway in 2011 when Lopez slammed into Jessup's car and sent him airborne.
Lopez's attorney said the decision was disappointing to him, and was surprised that the judge didn't require probation time.
Lopez was acquitted of manslaughter charges in November.
Lopez did not address the court because his attorney says he plans to appeal.
