It’s a beach day full of fun and learning. News 12's Elisa DiStefano explored the Jones Beach Energy and Nature Center on this week's Road Trip: Close to Home.
This unique environmental education center is in the western most end of Jones Beach.
There are over a dozen exhibits to see inside.
Learn about the formation of the landscape of Jones Beach and Long Island.
See the energy-efficient house exhibit - it demonstrates how we can manage energy consumption in our own homes.
Take a deep dive into exploring artificial reefs and marine creatures.
You can take an audio or in-person tour to explore the net zero features of the building.
Outside you can see a wind turbine blade. They host seal walks, a winter bird walk and guided hikes where they’ll take you down to the dunes to see wildlife.
Explore the shore, and so much more, and leave with new knowledge of how you can take action to conserve energy and protect our beautiful island.
