Rep. Steve Israel (D-Huntington) says he will work to secure funding to repair damage to Long Island beaches brought by this summer?s storms.
Robert Moses State Park and Fire Island Inlet both lost a lot of sand. Half of fields 4 and 5 were closed this summer because there wasn?t enough sand for people to lie down on. Officials say the Fire Island Inlet situation is a matter of safety.
Israel says when he returns to Washington, finding money to re-deposit sand on local beaches and dredging the inlet will be his priority. He says he hopes to secure the money from the economic stimulus package.
