The Islip School District has a new acting superintendent of schools.
The Board of Education passed a resolution Saturday to appoint Assistant Superintendent Kathleen O'Callaghan as acting superintendent of schools effective immediately.
School officials tell News 12 Superintendent Dennis O'Hara will be stepping away for a period of time.
As News 12 reported, O'Hara came under fire for photos he took of female lifeguards while working at his summer job.
Parents say the decision is a step in the right direction.
"I am hoping that this means the board will continue its investigation because I think it's important for our district to know the facts in the community," explained Kristina Moon, of Islip.
O'Hara has apologized to the school community for his actions.
The board says it will continue to investigate the matter for any important facts that may come to light.
"Dennis is due an investigation, so that's fair," added Scott Brown, of Islip.
Parents and administrators will have the opportunity to make public comments at the board's next meeting on Sept.9
