Parents in the Islip School District are calling for the addition of armed guards.
They started an online petition, which has over 500 signatures.
The Islip school board meets Tuesday, and parents say they will attend to bring the topic to the table.
Those concerned say the safety of students and teachers is an issue.
They are also calling on State Assembly members and senators to pass legislation including the School Security Guard Training Enhancement Act.
The petition also urges Gov. Kathy Hochul to make school security funding a priority in the state budget.
Tuesday’s board meeting is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. at Islip High School.
