Islandia has filed a $1 million lawsuit against Suffolk County over a significant drop-off in issued traffic tickets within the community.

Mayor Allan Dorman says the village had made close to $300,000 from traffic tickets issued in the village.

"I look at last year...we had 9,100 tickets and this year I only have 3,100 tickets," says Dorman. "Where are the tickets?"

Dorman says the missing tickets are costing the village hundreds of thousands of dollars. Without that money, village residents are facing a 72 percent tax hike, approximately $260 per home, per year.

Dorman says he seen a drop in traffic tickets ever since Suffolk Executive Steve Bellone opened the county's new traffic and parking violation agency in Hauppauge. He believes the money from the traffic tickets are being diverted to the county and not to Islandia.

Officials in Suffolk County say that if tickets are issued in Islandia, the revenue goes directly to Islandia. They also say the village shouldn't rely on ticket revenue to balance its budget.
