Some Long Islanders took on a 5K at UBS Arena to support their neighbors with disabilities as the Islanders hosted "Race to the Rink" to benefit Easter-Seals New York.
The nonprofit provides services and opportunities to people with disabilities or special needs and their families.
"For me, it's humbling in a sense that you can show up and see all these Islanders fans that care about more than hockey. I think everyone's here for that exact reason -- raise money for a good cause. People that need support. [It] doesn't matter who you are. Islanders fans will have your back, so be part of that. It's special for me," said Thomas Hickey, of MSG Networks.
Butch Goring, Thomas Hickey, Sparky and Nyisles were at the finish line to hand out medals to the participants.
The Islanders Children's Foundation also supported the event.
