Island Vote: Nassau executive candidates try to earn last-minute votes
The candidates vying to be the next Nassau County executive pounded the pavement Sunday trying to earn every last vote before Election Day on Tuesday.
Laura Curran is running against Jack Martins in what is expected to be a tight race for Nassau County executive.
The cornerstone of Martins’ campaign has been law enforcement, specifically addressing gang violence.
Curran and her campaign are focusing on eliminating corruption in the county. She says reducing fraudulent spending could free up millions in the county budget, allowing for economic development and improvement for things like public transit.
Both Curran and Martins agree that they don’t want Nassau County to be a “sanctuary county.” They’ve both pledged to give police permission to work with federal immigration officials.
