A youth movement is underway in many of the Long Island election races next week.
At the age of 22, Nicholas Gambini, the Democratic candidate for state Assembly in the 7th District, is the youngest to ever run for the governing body - beating out Chuck Schumer and Teddy Roosevelt, who ran for Assembly when they were 23.
"What I lack in political experience, I think I make up for in ideas," Gambini told News 12 Long Island.
When Gambini isn't campaigning, he works folding boxes and delivering for Domino's Pizza. He admits his campaign faces an uphill battle for the computer science major in a district that is 60-40 registered Republican.
Even Republican incumbent Andrew Garborino says he welcomes the youth movement in politics.
"I'm 32, he's 22. I think it is refreshing," he said.
In three other Assembly districts, candidates in their 20s are challenging incumbents. In the state Senate races, there are two millennials also challenging incumbents.
