Neighbors have for years complained of flooding along Pershing Place in Island Park, and Sunday morning's storm brought more of the same.
A recently fixed sea wall along the waterfront at the end of the street was supposed to improve the flooding woes, but it was evident Sunday that the problem hasn't been resolved. Water turned the road into a river, and residents along the block could not get into their cars.
Resident Chris Noftell is frustrated. "Anybody with common sense can tell you what the problem is," he said. "You look at the block, there's no drainage and it's pitched the wrong way."
Noftell says it's up to the Village of Island Park to fix the problem.
Island Park Mayor Michael McGinty tells News 12 that the village has embarked upon a drainage study in the area to be funded by the federal government. Once it's complete, the village plans to take corrective action, McGinty says.
