Volunteers with Island Harvest put together boxes Thursday of emergency response food that will be used during the fall.
For months, it has been an all hands on deck operation at Island Harvest's Bethpage warehouse.
Since March, volunteers have shown up and turned out thousands of boxes of food for Long Islanders who face food insecurity -- many for the first time due to the pandemic.
Island Harvest says there were about 300,000 people on Long Island who need a helping hand when it comes to providing food for their families. Since the coronavirus hit, those numbers have hit all-time highs.
"Between March and June, we helped out 200,000 families -- not people -- but families," said Randi Shubin Dresner.
The volunteers from different Long Island businesses took the day to pack up the food.
Island Harvest says it plans on providing emergency food until the end of 2021.
