A Riverhead man has been accused of sexually assaulting a child in public.
Prosecutors say Jose Samuel Carabantes Pineda sexually assaulted a girl several times, beginning in the fall of last year.
On March 20, investigators say Pineda drove the girl to a Big Lots parking lot in Riverhead, restrained her with duct tape in the back of his vehicle and sexually assaulted her.
A good Samaritan heard the girl's screams, knocked on the windows and called 911, investigators say.
Pineda was arrested at his home and charged with a number of crimes, including predatory sexual assault against a child.
Pineda is being held without bond and faces 25 years-to-life in prison if convicted.
