Investigators in Calverton have a two-ton mystery on their hands Tuesday.
Officials say a 2,000 gallon aviation fuel tank that was stolen from Calverton Airport could be a matter of national security. Richard Wyeroski, a consultant for the company that owns the tank, says the item can be used as a weapon of mass destruction. He says he is not sure when the tank was taken because he only found out a few days ago. Wyeroski adds he is worried because there is still another tank at the airport and security isn't what it should be.
Riverhead Supervisor Phil Cardinale says the town is responsible for security around the runway. He says there is absolutely no security issues surrounding the runways. Cardinale adds that the tank was taken from the industrial park, which is open to the public. Riverhead police will be checking surveillance video.
