It was an intense scene on Terrace Avenue in Hempstead Tuesday during the final moments before Nassau police took the Stop & Shop shooting suspect into custody.
Police swarmed a building at 100 Terrace Ave. where they later took Gabriel Dewitt Wilson into custody.
Wilson, 31, is accused of shooting three people, one of them fatally, at a Stop & Shop on Cherry Valley Avenue in West Hempstead.
Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder says Wilson arrived for work at the store this morning and shot two people, a male and a female, in an office at the store. He says Wilson then entered a second office where a 49-year-old manager was killed.
Police say Wilson was a cart collector at the store. They say he had a "small" criminal background and was treated once in Nassau for a mental health illness.
Sources say one of the injured victims is in critical condition and the other is in stable condition.
