Students of John F. Kennedy High School in Bellmore have had plenty of experience with the most prestigious science contest in the country, and this year is no exception.
Six seniors were selected as semi-finalists in the Intel Science Talent Search, which annually challenges high school students to submit complicated and fruitful research. With 64 of the 300 semi-finalists from Long Island, JFK H.S. has earned bragging rights with its submissions on Alzheimer's, schizophrenia, cancer and complex plant cell division. In the past five years, JFK H.S. has had 20 semi-finalists and two finalists.
Forty students will be chosen for the final round at the end of January. At that point they will present their projects in Washington, DC. The winner receives a $100,000 college scholarship.
