Independent investigator authorized to probe Southold police officer party

An independent investigator has been authorized to investigate a retirement party for a Southold Town police officer.
Officials say the party was held on May 29.
Following the party, the town allegedly received numerous complaints that the police department was not practicing social distancing. They also say fireworks were being shot off.
In response, Southold Town Supervisor Scott Russell released a statement saying, “The Town Board wants the residents of Southold to know that we are taking the allegations very seriously and are determined to get to the bottom of what happened."
