Some Black Long Islanders are on edge about going into public places after Saturday's racist attack at a Buffalo supermarket.

The weekend's shooting killed 10 people in a predominantly Black neighborhood of Buffalo.

Police patrols have been increased across Long Island around mass transit, at large gathering places and at houses of worship.

Comfort Denkyi, 75, is a business owner and says the mass shooting upstate has her store getting less traffic.

"My customers are scared, the older people like me are scared to come out," Denkyi says.

Denkyi says that criminals are getting caught then being released shortly after. As a result, she is now closing her store earlier every day.

"I'm concerned for our safety," says Monique Exeme, of Wyandanch, "When we go to stores, someone may come in and shoot us and that's really scary."

Richard Queensborough, lead pastor at True Life Church of God in Wyandanch, says it is good to have the police presence in communities.

There are no current threats on Long Island at this time.
