The plan to develop Indian Hills Country Club in Fort Salonga has been approved despite objections from local residents.
The Huntington Town Planning Board Wednesday voted to approve a developer's plan to build 74 luxury units in a new 55-and-old complex.
It would be built on what is now country club property on the North Shore of Huntington. The golf course there would become part of the new complex.
The proposal, which has been in the works for seven years, has been met with strong opposition from area residents who cited environmental concerns.
"We have a bluff eroding at 5 to 6 feet a year, we have very sensitive wetlands, we have horrible water quality," says Christen Kuhn, of Fort Salonga. "I feel like it's not something that they are comprehending."
The Fort Salonga Property Owners' Association has filed a lawsuit to try and block it from happening.
