Some Huntington students got a chance to meet with their local candidates Thursday and discuss issues that are important to them.
The event, held at Harborfields Public Library in Greenlawn, was hosted by SPICE, or Students Promoting Inclusive Civic Engagement.
Instead of speeches at a podium, which organizers say can be boring, the political forum was conducted with a twist -- students were able to go one on one with the candidates, asking them various questions.
The students came from several highs schools within the Town of Huntington. Most of them are not yet old enough to vote. But that didn't stop them from taking the opportunity to meet candidates running for town and state offices.
In each discussion group, competing candidates were seated side by side. Organizers say it was a way to show students and adults that political discourse can and should be civil.
