Hundreds of residents, religious leaders and local organizations marched in Suffolk County Sunday to call for justice in the death of Eric Garner.
Protests have been held around the country after a Staten Island grand jury decided not to indict NYPD Officer Daniel Pantaleo in Garner's chokehold death.
About 500 demonstrators met at the Amityville train station Sunday afternoon and marched to Holy Trinity Baptist Church. Organizers say the goal was to express their frustration over how law enforcement officers treat minority communities.
The protest briefly closed down parts of Sunrise Highway Sunday.
Protests over the decision turned violent overnight in Berkeley, California. Officers used tear gas and smoke bombs to break up the demonstration after protesters smashed windows and threw bricks and pipes at police. Two officers sustained minor injuries, according to officials.
