A Port Jefferson man received a second chance at life thanks to a selfless sacrifice from a woman he had never met.
Last fall, News 12 met Frank Biscardi, who was in desperate need of a kidney. He has a rare blood type, B+, and didn't have much time to find a donor.
Shortly afterward, a woman read about Biscardi's dilemma and decided to see if she could be a match.
Cathy Powers says she made the decision to donate her kidney after she witnessed how her father had saved her mother's life by donating his kidney.
"You can save a life by donating and that's why I believe God gave us two kidneys for this reason," Biscardi said.
The transplant surgery occurred three weeks ago and was a success.
Biscardi says thanks to Powers, he and his wife Cathy have a new life.
