The New York State Fraternal Order of Police added 24 names of fallen heroes to its Wall of Honor in Hicksville Saturday.
The memorial, which was unveiled 10 years ago, honors New York's finest who gave their lives in the line of duty.
Nassau Corrections Officer John Allen died from injuries suffered while rushing to the aid of a fellow officer. In honor of his sacrifice, Allen's name was added to memorial.
New York City Police Officer Glen Pettit, a Ronkonkoma native, was killed in the Twin Towers on September 11th. ?Every single one of these police officers that are on this wall are heroes and we shouldn't forget everyday that they put their lives on the line for our communities,? Pettit?s brother Neil said.
There are now 1,300 names etched on the Wall of Honor. For the families of the fallen, the memorial has become a special place where they can come to reflect and remember.
